Dental care can often scare the people that need it the most. Something in our culture has taught us to equate a visit to the dentist with nothing but pain and sadism. Remember when Jack Nicholson played that dentist in “Little Shop of Horrors?” Well if you cannot, just think “Here is Johnny” the next time your dentist comes near your face with a needle. Sadly, this misconception actually prevents people from enjoying the benefits of a happy and healthy smile. Good dental health is a sign of good health overall and in my experience, the minor and temporary discomfort of a dental procedure is erased by the immeasurable relief experienced when receiving proper dental care from a highly qualified dentist.

Did you know that not flossing can lead to heart disease? I am not making this up. Negligent dental care can lead to plaque build up along the gums. This plaque is readily absorbed into the bloodstream with very little digestive action. If you eat foods high in cholesterol and saturated fats, these chemicals are being absorbed directly into your bloodstream!

Even if you recognize the benefits of proper dental care, you may still be intimidated by the price. Well dental insurance is cheaper than medical insurance, if you have an employer that provides these benefits. How do people without insurance find the right dental care? Well, one option that I have used is letting dental hygiene students clean my teeth. This saves money. But if you need ongoing care, they may not be able to offer the consistency that comes with an established relationship between you and your dentist. Remember, she is putting her hands in your mouth: you better be able to trust her!

Dental care can be had for cheap. The most important thing is to be consistent with care. Visiting the dentist becomes cheaper and less painful as you take more and more responsibility for your care. Ultimately, you are primarily responsible for your dental care. Once you realize this and follow through on the implications, you will experience the best dental care possible.

Immediate Care for Your Dental Pain

Accidents do not always occur when our doctors or dentists are in. Fortunately many service providers have realized this and created immediate care facilities including emergency dental offices. This serves the community well but it also serves the interest of business. Most everyone can agree that tooth pain can be the most excruciating form of pain. An emergency dental office capitalizes on this universality, along with our tendency to have accidents. And considering all the times that an emergency dental center would have shortened some of my miserable experiences with tooth pain, I have to say that I am in clear favor of them.

One dental emergency that has followed me was the time I chipped off half of an incisor. While I did not receive treatment in an emergency dental office, my dentist was able to come in after hours and attach a temporary crown. Had he not been able to do that I may have had to wait until the weekend was over.

This tooth has been an occasional problem. It was the cause of my first root canal, a rite-of-passage that I would have preferred to have avoided. However, an emergency dental office could have shortened the gap between the abscess forming and the drilling of my tooth and thus alleviated my pain. However, this was not the case, as I had no emergency dental offices to turn to.

Emergency dental offices serve a valuable niche in the community. Dental problems generally cannot be treated as emergency room problems and doctors are not trained to deal with them. Dental emergencies are hardly life and death. As painful as they can be, the average person can apply prophylactic measures during the wait to see a dentist. But these short-term remedies hardly recover the enjoyment of life of the patient. Emergency dental offices can help bring immediate relief, which can be of infinite value to the person suffering tooth pain. Plus, immediate relief decreases the need for painkillers and can allow a person to return to work much sooner than expected without emergency dental offices. It is not a matter of creature comfort: emergency dental services also improve productivity and quality of life.
